How does it work?
You load green waste (kitchen scraps) and brown waste (dry leaves, cardboard) into one chamber and give the drum a few turns each week. Rotating on the central axis mixes and aerates the contents, and the ventilation slots let air in to support aerobic decomposition, while the sealed drum traps the heat that microbes generate. When a chamber is full you stop adding to it and start filling the second chamber, leaving the first to cure into finished compost. The raised A-frame keeps the drum off the ground for airflow and to reduce rodent access.
How is this different from a compression glove or a heat pack?
A static ground bin or a single-chamber tumbler forces you to keep adding scraps to the same pile, so a batch never finishes because it is always being topped up, and you turn it by bending to the ground with a fork. This unit's second chamber is what lets one batch finish clean while the other fills, and the horizontal rotation replaces manual turning entirely. Neither claim can be made of a one-chamber bin.
Who is it for?
It is used by australian suburban home gardeners composting kitchen scraps and garden waste, small households, people with limited mobility or back problems who find bending to turn a ground-level bin difficult, urban composters in areas where rodent-proof composting is needed.
How often should I use it?
Drum rotated a few times per week; scraps added as generated; chambers emptied and refilled on a rolling cycle as batches complete.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Not always. Processing very large volumes of bulk seasonal yard waste (traditional open bins are described as better suited to that purpose); Composting in very cold climates without insulation, as the process slows significantly in winter. Start on the lowest setting, and check with your doctor first if you are unsure.
